Build a skill

Write a SKILL.md recipe from built-in skills and their settings, test it, and publish it.

A marketplace skill is a recipe: an ordered list of built-in skills with the settings you chose. People install it, switch it on in the editor’s Skills panel, and it runs every step on their recording. Switching it off reverses all of its steps together.

Built from built-in skills

A recipe can only chain the eight built-in skills. That keeps every recipe predictable and reversible, and means it works offline on any computer. If you need something new on the timeline, build a plugin instead.

#The SKILL.md file

Write the recipe as a Markdown file with a short header. The header holds the listing details and the steps; the text below it becomes the full description on the listing.

# Course chapters

For course lessons recorded in one take. Add a marker at the start of
each section before you switch it on. Each marker becomes a 3-second
chapter card, and every keyboard shortcut you press appears on screen.

Works best after Trim silence, so cards land on the final timeline.

Prefer JSON? A skill.json with the same keys works too:

{
  "name": "Tutorial polish",
  "description": "Trim mic silence, frame the webcam and zoom to recorded clicks.",
  "category": "Tutorial",
  "icon": "tutorial",
  "version": "1.0.0",
  "steps": [
    { "skill": "trim-silence", "params": { "threshold": -38 } },
    { "skill": "circular-webcam" },
    { "skill": "zoom-to-click", "params": { "scale": 2 } }
  ]
}

#Write a good recipe

  • Order the steps. Cutting steps go first. Put trim-silence before zoom-to-click, chapter-card and show-shortcuts, so everything lands on the trimmed timeline.
  • Say what it needs. If a step relies on markers, clicks or a camera track, say so in the first lines of the description.
  • Change one thing per version. People keep the version they installed until they choose Update, so explain what changed.
  • Don’t repeat a skill unless the second run uses different settings for a reason you explain.

    params:
      scale: 2.2
  - skill: blur-region
---

For short screen recordings sent to a support team. Move the blur over
any email address or token after switching it on.

#Test and publish

  1. Build it in the app

    Go to Skills → New skill, add the same steps and settings, and run it on two or three real recordings.

  2. Switch it off

    Check the timeline returns to how it was, including any footage Trim silence removed.

  3. Publish

    Open your account on the website, go to Publish, choose Skill and upload SKILL.md. The steps are read from the file; check them in the form before you submit.

Plan

Installing marketplace recipes needs the Pro plan or higher. Anyone can publish one.

Before you publish, read the publishing guidelines.
