Features

Every recording, editing, motion graphics and export feature in Swamp Dragon, explained in detail.

This page lists everything Swamp Dragon can do, grouped the way you'll meet it: recording, editing, motion graphics, look and effects, export, and automation. Plan badges show features that need a paid plan; everything else is included in every plan, including Free. See Pricing for the full comparison.

#Recording

#Every source, its own track

Screen, webcam, microphone and system audio are recorded to separate files that stay in sync. Because the tracks are independent you can, after recording:

  • hide the camera for part of the video, restyle it, or move it with keyframes;
  • mute or rebalance your voice against app audio (0โ€“200% each);
  • cut a cough out of the mic without touching the screen โ€” or cut everything at once with Trim silence;
  • send each track separately to Premiere Pro Pro.

#Capture modes

ModeDetails
DisplayAny connected screen, with live thumbnails in the picker.
WindowAny open app or browser window, even when covered. Search by app or window title.
RegionDraw a rectangle on a display. Resize with handles, move by dragging, remembered between recordings.

#Cursor metadata

During display and region recordings, Swamp Dragon stores the cursor path (about 30 samples per second), every click, and keyboard shortcuts (modifier + key only โ€” ordinary typing is never recorded). This metadata is what makes Zoom to click and Show shortcuts possible. On macOS, clicks and shortcuts require the optional Accessibility permission; without it, zooms are placed where the cursor pauses.

#Camera styles and background effects

Circle, rounded or square bubble; 10โ€“40% of the frame width; any corner with a margin; border on/off with width and color; shadow; mirror; fade-in. Background effects keep you sharp while blurring your room, or replace it with an image (optionally blurred). The effect uses a person-segmentation model that runs offline on your GPU, and it's applied at preview and export time โ€” the camera track is saved unchanged, so you can change your mind later.

#The recording bar

When recording starts, the app minimizes and a slim bar sits at the top edge: time, mic level, mic mute, camera on/off, pause and stop. It's excluded from capture where the operating system supports it. Global shortcuts โŒ˜โ‡งR and โŒ˜โ‡งP (Ctrl on Windows) work from any app.

#Crash-safe recording

Tracks are written to disk every second. If the app or computer crashes, the next launch rebuilds the recording from what was saved. When a clip reaches your plan's limit, you get a 30-second warning and the recording stops and saves by itself.

#Recording options

  • 30 or 60 fps.
  • Countdown: off, 3 s or 5 s.
  • Microphone noise reduction.
  • Choose camera and microphone devices; live mic level meter.
  • Choose the recordings folder.

#Editing

#Non-destructive multitrack timeline

Your original files are never modified. Every edit โ€” cuts, zooms, titles, effects โ€” is stored in the project and can be changed at any time. The last 200 edits can be undone, and the project saves itself continuously.

CapabilityDetails
Split and bladeSplit at the playhead (S) or click anywhere with the Blade tool (B).
Ripple trim and extendDrag a clip's edge to shorten it or bring back cut footage. Everything after it moves with it.
Speed0.25ร— to 4ร— per clip, with pitch-preserving audio.
ReversePlay any clip backwards (silently).
Freeze frameHold any frame for 0.1โ€“60 s.
Duplicate / delete / restoreDuplicate clips, delete with gap closing, restore the full recording.
SnappingTo the playhead, cuts, markers, item edges and In/Out points.
Copy and pasteCopy any item and paste it at the playhead or into a specific layer, keeping its keyframes.
MarkersChapter points for the Chapter card skill and for AI assistants.
In / Out rangeMark a section and export only that part.
Context menusRight-click clips, items, layers, lanes and the ruler for every action.

#Layers

Text, image and graphics layers stack above the video. Layers higher in the list draw on top. Add as many as you need; hide, lock, rename, reorder or delete them. New items are placed on the first layer where they don't overlap anything, so items never pile up in one lane.

#Cursor-aware zoom

Zooms ease in toward a focus point and back out. Each zoom has a scale of 1.1ร— โ€“ 4ร—, a ramp time of 0.05 โ€“ 3 s, and an easing: ease in-out, ease in, ease out, linear, overshoot, bounce or elastic. Click the preview to set the focus. Zoom to click creates zooms from your recorded clicks automatically, grouping nearby clicks into one zoom.

#Keyframes

Texts, images, graphics and the webcam can be animated with keyframes for position (X and Y), scale (20โ€“300%), rotation (ยฑ180ยฐ per key) and opacity. Each keyframe has its own easing โ€” including overshoot, bounce and elastic for lively motion. Add one with K; drag the item on the preview to move it.

#Privacy blur

Blur a rectangle of the recording for any time range, 4โ€“60 px strength. The blur is anchored to the recording, so it stays over the right content during zooms.

#Audio mix

Per-track mute and volume (0โ€“200%) for microphone and system audio, with waveforms that follow every edit.

#Motion titles and captions

#Text styles

StyleLooks like
TitleA card with a soft shadow at the top left โ€” or bare text when the background is off.
Chapter cardFull-frame dimmed backdrop with large centered text.
Lower thirdName and role panel in the bottom-left corner.
CaptionSubtitle bar centered at the bottom.
CalloutPill-shaped label at the top center.
ShortcutKeyboard-shortcut label in a monospaced font.
Brand outroFull-frame card with your logo, name and tagline in your brand color.

Every text can override its font (sans, serif, mono, rounded), size (50โ€“250%), alignment, text color and background (any color or none).

#Entrances, exits and loops

TypeOptions
EntranceNone, fade, slide up, slide down, slide from right, slide from left, pop, bounce, zoom, spin, blur in, typewriter, word by word, wipe, draw on
ExitNone, fade, slide up, slide down, slide left, slide right, pop, zoom, spin, blur out, wipe, draw off
Duration0.1โ€“2 s for both entrance and exit
Loop motionPulse, breathe, float, wiggle, spin, blink, shake โ€” with a speed of 0.2โ€“4 cycles per second

"Apply to all" copies one text's animation to every text in the project.

#Title presets

The Titles panel has 20 ready-made looks with live previews (hover to play):

  • Titles โ€” Bold pop, Clean rise, Typewriter, Serif headline, Wipe, Slide in
  • Kinetic โ€” Word by word, Bounce in, Zoom punch, Spin in, Floating tag, Wiggle
  • Lower thirds โ€” Classic, Name tag
  • Captions & callouts โ€” Caption, Callout pill, Shortcut
  • Cards โ€” Chapter, Blur reveal, Brand outro

#Captions

Import SRT or WebVTT files from the Titles panel. Each cue becomes a caption at the right time, styled like any other text.

#Motion graphics

#Shapes

ShapeUse it to
ArrowPoint at a button or field. Draws on from tail to head.
BoxFrame an area, with optional fill and rounded corners.
CircleCircle an element; draw-on traces the outline.
HighlightA marker-style band behind text.
SpotlightDim everything except one area.
UnderlineUnderline a word or heading.
LineConnect or separate things.
Focus bracketsCorner brackets that frame a target.
Click rippleAnimated rings that show a click.
Progress barFills from left to right over the item's duration.

Each shape has fill, stroke color, stroke width (0โ€“40 px), corner radius (0โ€“120 px), position and size, entrance/exit animation, loop motion and keyframes. Ten motion presets combine these into ready-made animations: Pointing arrow, Pulse ring, Highlight sweep, Spotlight focus, Pop-in box, Draw-on circle, Wiggle badge, Click ripple, Focus brackets and Video progress.

#Images and logos

Add PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF or SVG images. Position them with a 9-point grid or by dragging, set the size and corner radius, and animate them like text.

#Transitions

Put a transition on any cut: fade through black, fade through white, flash, blur, zoom in, zoom out, push left, push right, push up, push down, circle, spin and glitch. Duration 0.2โ€“2.5 s. Apply one to a single cut or to every cut at once. Transitions play half before the cut and half after, so they never change your video's length.

#Look and effects
