Introducing Swamp Dragon

A screen recorder and video editor for people who teach with their screens. Separate tracks, motion graphics, reusable skills and an optional MCP integration, all on your own computer.

Most screen recordings are made under pressure. You have a feature to demo, a lesson to publish or a bug to explain, and the tools force a choice: record quickly and live with a rough video, or spend an afternoon in a full editor. Swamp Dragon is our attempt to remove that choice.

Record once, keep every part editable

Swamp Dragon records your screen, camera, microphone and system audio as separate tracks. That one decision changes what you can do afterwards. Move the webcam to another corner after recording. Turn it into a circle with a white border. Mute system audio without touching your voice. Blur your background after the fact. None of this needs a retake.

While you record, Swamp Dragon also notes where you clicked and which shortcuts you pressed. You never see this data, but skills use it later to zoom on clicks and label shortcuts automatically.

An editor built for screen content

The editor is a real multitrack timeline: layers, ripple trimming, speed changes from 0.25× to 4×, reverse, freeze frames and markers. On top of that you get the things screen videos actually need:

  • Eased zooms that guide the eye to the part of the screen that matters.
  • Titles and kinetic text in seven styles, with 15 entrance and 12 exit animations.
  • Motion graphics: arrows that draw themselves, spotlights, highlights, progress bars, ripples and brackets.
  • Keyframes for position, scale, rotation and opacity, with bounce and elastic easing.
  • Transitions, effects and looks: 13 transitions, 12 timed effects and 10 color presets.

Skills: edits you can switch off

A skill is a reusable editing recipe. Zoom to click adds an eased zoom to every click. Trim silence removes pauses from your narration. Chapter card turns markers into animated chapter titles. The important part is that a skill is reversible: switch it off and Swamp Dragon undoes exactly what it changed, even after you've made other edits.

Bring your own AI, or none at all

Swamp Dragon includes no AI model and never asks for an API key. If you already use Claude Code, Codex or Cursor, you can connect it over the Model Context Protocol and ask it to edit for you: "cut the first four seconds, add a chapter card at every marker and zoom on the Invite button." The assistant uses the same editing operations you do, and every change can be undone.

Local first

Recordings, projects and exports stay on your computer. The app doesn't upload your video, audio or previews, and the MCP bridge only listens on your own machine. You can record on a plane.
