Skills: edits you can switch off

Why every Swamp Dragon skill is reversible, how that works under the hood, and how to build and share your own recipes.

Automatic editing usually has a catch: once the tool has done its thing, you own the result. If you don't like the zooms it added, you remove them one by one. We wanted skills that behave differently.

What a skill is

A skill is a recipe of ordinary edits. Zoom to click adds zooms. Chapter card adds text at your markers. Trim silence adds cuts. Nothing a skill does is special: the edits land on the timeline like edits you'd make yourself, and you can tweak any of them.

Switching a skill off

When a skill runs, Swamp Dragon records exactly what it changed: which items it added, which cuts it made, and what the frame, look and export settings were before. Switching the skill off removes its items, restores the cuts and puts the earlier settings back. Your own edits made in between are left alone.

Running a skill again with different settings replaces its earlier result instead of stacking a second copy. So trying Trim silence at −40 dB, then at −45 dB, is a two-click experiment.

The built-in skills

  • Zoom to click: an eased zoom on every recorded click. Free.
  • Circular webcam: bottom-right circle with border, shadow and fade-in. Free.
  • YouTube tutorial: 1080p H.264 export tuned for screen content. Free.
  • Chapter card: animated chapter titles at your markers. Starter.
  • Trim silence: removes quiet gaps from your narration. Starter.
  • Show shortcuts: on-screen labels for the shortcuts you pressed. Starter.
  • Blur region: a privacy blur you drag over sensitive areas. Starter.
  • Brand outro: a closing card with your brand. Pro.

Build your own

On Pro, the custom skill builder lets you chain built-in skills with your own settings. A "course lesson" skill might trim silence at −40 dB, add zooms, add chapter cards and set the YouTube export, all in one click. Custom skills are reversible too.

Share them on the Skills market

Because a custom skill is just a list of steps and settings, it's easy to share. The new Skills market lists every built-in skill plus recipes from the community. You can publish your own, free, open source or paid.
